Connect your agent to Canon
Create an API key, add Canon's MCP server to your agent (Claude, OpenAI, Gemini, Cursor, VS Code or any MCP client), and it can read normalized, cited patient records. The same key works for the REST API.
1Your API key
Free to create. Reading records and the usage dashboard work right away.
Copy this key now. It is stored hashed on our side and won't be shown again. This browser remembers it so the snippets below and the usage dashboard work.
2Connect over MCP
Server URL , Streamable HTTP, key sent as a Bearer token.
Create a key above and it fills in below.
Claude Code
Run in a terminal, then check it with claude mcp list:
Claude Desktop
Settings → Developer → Edit Config, merge this into claude_desktop_config.json,
then restart. Needs Node.js.
Claude API
The Messages API connects to Canon itself through the MCP connector (Python SDK):
Codex CLI
Codex reads the key from an environment variable:
OpenAI API (Responses)
OpenAI's servers call Canon as a remote MCP tool:
OpenAI Agents SDK
ChatGPT's custom connectors sign in with OAuth, which Canon doesn't offer yet. Use Codex or the API.
Gemini CLI
Run in a terminal, then check it with gemini mcp list:
Gemini API
The Google Gen AI SDK (Python) takes an MCP session as a tool and calls it for you:
Cursor
Or add it to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
VS Code
Or add it to .vscode/mcp.json:
Any MCP client that speaks Streamable HTTP and can send a header works. Or call the REST API directly:
Tool schemas for your own agent loop: GET /v1/tools?format=anthropic|openai|mcp.
See the README.
3Test the connection
Runs the MCP handshake from this page with your key and lists the tools your agent will see.
